Fiona Northover – Studio manager and PA to Karen McClure

Fiona is the first point of contact for all clients, contractors and suppliers at Karen McClure Garden Design.

Fiona’s career started as a broker’s assistant to a busy desk of investment managers in the City.  She resumed work in 2016, utilising her skills working with a team offering outsourced support to varied small businesses in Kent.  It was here that she met Karen and as her business grew, so did Fiona’s role.

Fiona enjoys the variety of the work, the creative buzz and the interesting people she gets to meet in this inspiring industry.  Although her role is largely administration, she loves the involvement that the team has at every level as each highly individual project evolves.  She is passionate about ensuring that an outstanding customer service is delivered alongside the first class garden designs – she is a fundamental part of the team.

Amy De Baerdemaecker- Garden Designer

Born in West Sussex, Amy studied fine Art & Design before entering the world of Agriculture where she discovered her love of plants whilst working in private gardens. Time spent travelling in Asia, Australia, New Zealand and China in the following years gave her much creative inspiration.

Returning to the UK, Amy was recruited as deputy Head Gardener at Woburn Abbey where she designed and project managed new areas of the garden as well as the reinstatement of the famous ‘Humphrey Repton’s Red Book’ in the private and public gardens. She gained her RHS Level 2&3 with Commendation. Amy also accomplished a Gold Award for a Show Garden at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Christchurch, Ellerslie Flower Show, in New Zealand.

Since leaving Woburn Abbey, Amy continued to build on her extensive horticultural knowledge and worked as a senior gardener leading a team at Buckingham Palace. She was mentored by Tim Martin, which allowed her to combine her love of plants and gardens with her training in Art and Design. Her extensive experience and knowledge allowed Amy to independently design and project manage various gardens in Bedfordshire, specialising in larger spaces. She enjoys creating country gardens with a contemporary twist- the emphasis on the beauty of the plants.

Amy returned to Sussex in 2017 and has become an integral, valuable and not to mention perfect fit, to the KMGD design team.

Chrissy FitzPatrick – Garden Designer.

Chrissy studied at the University of Greenwich, where she gained a BA in Garden Design and an MA in Landscape Architecture.  Before becoming a designer, she was a gardener achieving her level 2 RHS certification, where she received a pass with commendation. Chrissy loves to explore, create and design and is inspired by spaces she has visited whilst on her travels.

She would consider her style to be a modern garden style, where materials, architecture and planting are all just as important as one another.

Richard Humphrey – Project Manager & Garden Designer

Richard worked for 28 years in global multinationals (Nestlé, L’Oréal and Boots) as a Human Resources Director, but decided to make a career change to become a garden designer 2 years ago.  He has always been a keen gardener, and had redesigned his own garden each time he moved with his company (a total of 16 times!)  He has spent the last 2 years studying garden design at Hadlow College in Kent, where he obtained a distinction in his HND.  He joined Karen McClure Garden Design as a garden designer and project manager, bringing his commercial and project management skills with him and further developing his new found vocation at the same time.

Matthew Dancsecs – Work Based Learning – Student at Hadlow College

In line with our values of championing the industry and those seeking a career in garden design, we regularly support students with their work based learning placements.  We offer work experience to outstanding students to enhance their practical knowledge as well as help them build relevant business skills in readiness for when they complete their studies.  Matthew is currently a student at Hadlow College studying for a BA (hons) in Garden Design and joined the team in 2018.  Before starting his studies he was working in landscaping and construction and achieved an NVQ 2 in Amenity Horticulture.  He is an excellent student and team member, with enthusiasm and lots of creativity which compliments his construction experience.
